Metal braces aren't the only choice if you're unhappy with your smile. Misaligned teeth and bite problems can also be improved with Invisalign treatment, an orthodontic option that corrects smile issues discreetly. Dr. Richard Lee-Shanok of Newmarket Dentistry offers the treatment in his Newmarket, ON, office.

Invisalign doesn't change your appearance

Metal braces are anything but subtle. In fact, every time you speak, talk or laugh, the world is treated to a flash of metal. Invisalign offers a much more subtle type of orthodontic treatment.

The system uses a series of clear, removable aligner trays that are worn for approximately 20 to 22 hours per day. Your trays are designed using digital X-rays, images and impressions taken in your Newmarket dentist's office. Each tray in the series is worn for two weeks before being exchanged for the next set.

Food restrictions are unnecessary

Unlike your friends who wear metal braces, you won't be given a list of foods to avoid when you choose Invisalign. You can eat anything you want whenever you want. Before you eat, you'll remove your aligner trays and place them in a case. After the meal is over, you'll only need to rinse them and place them back in your mouth. It's also a good idea to remove your trays when you drink anything other than water, as coffee, tea, cola, wine and other drinks can stain the plastic.

Brushing won't become a time-consuming experience

Brushing and flossing become much more time-intensive tasks if you wear metal braces. If you're not careful, you can break a wire or dislodge a bracket if you brush too hard. Luckily, you won't need to add another second to your oral hygiene routine when you wear Invisalign aligner trays. You'll simply remove the trays and brush and floss as usual.

Invisalign offers a special benefit for adults

Straightening your teeth will probably take about the same amount of time whether you wear metal braces or Invisalign if you're a teenager. That's not the case for adults. Treatment can be accomplished in as little as one year for many adults, although the length of treatment will depend on the severity of your orthodontic issues.

Create a whole new smile with Invisalign! Call your Newmarket, ON, dentist, Dr. Richard Lee-Shanok of Newmarket Dentistry, at (905) 830-1010 to schedule your appointment.

Invisalign Clear BracesDiscreetly Improve Your Smile with Invisalign!

Nervous about wearing metal braces? With Invisalign, you will be able to straighten your crooked smile without interrupting your life. Invisalign has made a difference in the lives of many patients. Newmarket Dentistry, located in Newmarket, ON, offers orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, to their patients. Read on to learn more about this wonderful service!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign can treat a broad range of orthodontic problems, including teeth that are crooked, gapped, overcrowded, or protruding, as well as crossbites, underbites, and overbites. The Invisalign aligners are made of a thermoplastic material and custom-made for your teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign aligners straighten teeth through the placement of controlled force which gradually moves your teeth in small increments. You will need to wear your aligners for about two weeks after which you will switch to a new set of aligner trays, repeating the same process until the end of treatment. You will need to wear these aligners for at least 22 hours per day.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Many patients love the fact that Invisalign aligners are transparent and comfortable to wear. They are virtually invisible, so most people won't notice that you're even wearing them. With traditional braces, you have to avoid eating certain foods because they can get stuck in your braces; not with Invisalign! Invisalign aligners are removable, meaning the trays can be taken out for easy brushing, flossing, eating, and special occasions.

How do I get started with Invisalign?

You can get started with Invisalign treatment by finding an Invisalign-trained dentist in Newmarket, ON, and scheduling a consultation. At your consultation, your Invisalign provider will determine whether Invisalign treatment is suitable for you, and answer any questions that you may have about the process.

Dr. Richard Lee-Shanok understands the difficulty that some teenagers and adults have with their crooked teeth. They want to have a invisalignbeautiful smile but want to avoid getting braces. That's why he provides his patients with Invisalign treatment in his Newmarket, ON, office.

What is Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign treatment consists of clear aligner trays made of plastic that are worn by patients. The custom-made aligners are made using 3-D computer imaging technology. The plastic aligners are also transparent and shift the teeth into place by applying pressure on each of them until they are straight or in the desired position.

Each set of trays needs to be worn for at least 22 hours a day. You can remove them to brush and floss your teeth, or while you're eating and drinking. If you want to take them off for a special occasion, like a wedding, you can do so, but remember, the longer they are not worn, the longer the treatment will be delayed. Also, because they are transparent, it isn't necessary to take them off. So there's no need to worry about them appearing in pictures.

The treatment can last approximately 9 - 15 months, while the average number of trays you may use may be around 18 - 30. How long your treatment will take will depend on your initial examination and the treatment plan you and your Newmarket dentist have agreed upon.

During your Invisalign treatment, you will need to see your doctor once every six weeks. He will want to make sure that your teeth are being straightened according to plan and will assess if any changes need to be made according to your progress.

If you're a teenager or adult who needs their teeth straightened but would like to avoid traditional metal braces, then you need to contact your Newmarket, ON, dentist, Dr. Richard Lee-Shanok. He will help determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment and get you started on the right path. Just call him at (905) 830-1010 to make an appointment today!

When you wear traditional metal braces, you may be forced into some lifestyle changes. One major change is the way that you eat and invisalignwhat you can safely eat without disturbing the brackets and wires on your teeth. This is one reason why many patients in Newmarket, ON., opt for Invisalign invisible braces instead. Find out how you can get a straighter smile without giving up your favorite foods with an Invisalign treatment at Newmarket Dentistry.

The Downside of Traditional Braces
When you have metal braces you can pretty much say goodbye to biting into hard foods, like apples, pears, corn on the cob, taffies and other sticky treats. These foods could cause the brackets to loosen or the wires to come out, which would affect your course of treatment. With traditional braces, you'll have to get use to changing the way you eat for two to three years in some cases.

Enjoy Your Favorite Foods with Invisalign
Invisalign is an orthodontic system offered by Newmarket Dentistry that moves your teeth with a series of plastic aligner trays. Because the trays are removable, you can take them off to enjoy your favorite foods at any time during the day. When you're finished eating, just remember to put the tray back on as soon as possible. It's also important to note that the Invisalign treatment period is usually much shorter than traditional braces (about six months to a year).

Invisalign Tips from Newmarket, ON.
Though you're free to enjoy your favorite foods with Invisalign, there are a few tips that you should keep in mind to ensure a successful treatment:

  • Brush and floss after meals before putting your tray back on.
  • Aim to wear your aligner trays at least 20-22 hours per day to ensure the best results.
  • Do not wrap your tray in a tissue while eating because it could be accidentally thrown away. Keep it in a secure case.

Older teenagers and adults are both great candidates for Invisalign treatment in Newmarket, but children are not typically good candidates since many structures in their mouths are still growing. For children, braces are typically the best solution for straightening teeth. Patients who have overbites or underbites will also not benefit from treatment with Invisalign at Newmarket Dentistry.
