How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

Invisalign clear aligners are today's discreet way to straighten your teeth. Your dentist, Dr. Richard Lee-Shanok, offers this inventive orthodontic treatment in his New Market office. Both teens and adults with mild to moderate alignment issues may qualify. Patients find the clear aligners subtle in appearance, comfortable and best of all, effective.

Have a great smile

Orthodontics is an important dental specialty. Conventional metal, ceramic and tongue-side (lingual) braces have straightened smiles for decades, giving patients smiles which look good, perform and wear well and stay healthier because they are easier to maintain.

However, conventional orthodontia always has had one drawback. Brackets and wires are right out there every time you smile or even open your mouth. This dissuades many people--especially adults--from getting the care they need.

Since their release in 1997, crystal-clear Invisalign aligners have changed the face of orthodontic care. Simply put, no one will notice you're wearing your aligner pairs. You can even remove them, if you wish, for a special event. While discreet, the aligners do their job well, moving teeth step-by-step into the perfect position.

The Invisalign consultation

To learn about the process, come to Newmarket Dentistry for an Invisalign consultation. Your dentist will explain the process, take a special Invisalign scan right in his Newmarket office, and show you how your care plan will improve your smile over the course of one year or so. You'll wear a pair of customized aligners for about two weeks and then change to the next pair in the sequence. In all, there are 18 to 30 pairs.

As your plan continues, you'll see your teeth shift positions as long as you wear the appliances 20 to 22 daily, taking them out to eat, brush and floss. Progress checks at the office happen at six-week intervals, and when you're done, you wear a retainer at night.

So versatile, Invisalign corrects a myriad of problems, including:

  • Overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite
